Microgrant Program

The LAVC Foundation Microgrant Program provides support for campus programs.  Grants are made for requests that enhance or support student life at LAVC and that otherwise have no other available funding sources for the need or request.  An independent committee reviews applications and makes awards of up to $1,000 per request.  Programs awarded are required to provide a report to the foundation outlining what the measured impact and outcomes were for the project supported.

Examples of Microgrant Awards:

Biology Tutoring Lab – LAVC Foundation provided funding for anatomical models (heart, liver, muscle etc.) for Twilight Tutoring for night Anatomy and Human Biology class students to access for studying.

Tax Accounting Program Assistance – LAVC Foundation offset exam costs for students to qualify to become certified tax preparers.  Until recently, this was free to colleges; however, the State now charges an unexpected fee.

Art Gallery Workshops and Panel Discussions – LAVC Foundation provided funding for honorariums for panel speakers and art supplies for student workshop participants.  The panel discussion provides students the opportunity to hear first hand regarding career trajectories and success strategies and provides an excellent networking opportunity to connect our students with professional artists currently working in the field.

It is through the generosity of donors and the revenue from the Farmers’ Market that we are able to provide this opportunity for the special projects on campus.
