The Police Orientation Preparation Program (POPP) is a career-focused partnership between the LAPD, The Los Angeles Community College District, California State University Los Angeles and Los Angeles Valley College. POPP is a two-year degree program that combines career preparatory coursework with professional opportunities in public service. Featuring guest speakers, physical fitness drills and coursework, POPP ensures students enter the LAPD academy ready to commit to a career in law enforcement. POPP also provides an opportunity for students who have matriculated from a Police Academy Magnet school to continue their focus on the LAPD until they are old enough to enroll in the Academy.
Recently, Los Angeles City Council President Paul Krekorian visited LAVC’s campus to present a $5,000 donation to the POPP Program. “My experience with the POPP students who have worked for my office has made me an enthusiastic supporter of this program,” said Council President Krekorian. “The POPP students I’ve worked with bring a genuine passion for public service to everything they do. This is an extraordinary opportunity for students to learn and grow while they give service, and it’s a great preparation for their future careers. The entire community benefits when young people like these are allowed to fulfill their potential.”
