Scholarship List

All applications links will be available on the Student Information System (SIS) Portal, under the “Scholarships” tab February 1, 2024 – March 15, 2024. Students will be notified in late April 2024 and all awards will be made at Scholarship Awards Ceremony in May 2024.

Applications are grouped by department (for departments with multiple scholarships) and also in the General Application. Each application matches students with scholarships based on individual criteria. Students will often qualify for multiple scholarships. All students are encouraged to apply.

 

Accounting Scholarship (A.L.)

Established to benefit a student who has completed Accounting 1 and Business Law 1 with a grade of “A.” Essay required.

Ageton-Pittenger Perpetual Scholarship

The Ageton-Pittenger Perpetual Scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Aura-Lee Ageton-Pittenger, longtime LAVC Economics professor and department chair.  Dr. Pittenger, with the support of her husband, James Hobbs Pittenger, was instrumental in building a robust scholarship program at LAVC enlisting involvement from academia, industry and the community. This scholarship specifically recognizes academic achievement.  Among the requirements, students must have completed 45 Semester Units with a 3.8 GPA and plans to transfer to a college or university. Essays are required.

Anatomy Scholarship

The LAVC Biology Department offers this scholarship and will benefit a student who has completed Anatomy 1 at LAVC, has passed minimum nine units and has a GPA of 3.25 or greater. Essay and Letter of Recommendation are required.

Anna & Tom Pangonis Memorial Scholarship

Created in the memory of Anna & Tom Pangonis, parents of Dr. Mary Ellen Pangonis, this award is given to a student studying Business. Must be transferring to a 4 year university and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

Associated Student Union Scholarship 1

The applicant must be currently enrolled at Los Angeles Valley College and must have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.4. The student must be enrolled in at least 6 units for the Spring Semester and have paid their ASO fee.

Associated Student Union Scholarship 2

The applicant must be currently enrolled at Los Angeles Valley College and have a GPA of 3.5 or greater. The student must be enrolled in 12 units in the Spring Semester and also be a paid member of ASU.

Bernard Osher Scholarship

Established by the Bernard Osher Foundation and the Foundation for California Community Colleges, this scholarship will benefit students who are recipients of the College Promise. Must be currently enrolled in 6 units, have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Bill Cloon Memorial Scholarship in Kinesiology

Bill Cloon Memorial Scholarship for Student Athletes. This scholarship was established in memory of Bill Cloon, who had a career in law enforcement and volunteered throughout his life as a coach and mentor in youth athletics. In this spirit, this scholarship will be awarded to a student who has been a student athlete at any level, including youth organizations and high school. Female applicants are encouraged to apply. Must be currently enrolled in 9 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Required essay is of prime importance.

Bruce Grossman Memorial in Music

This scholarship is supported by Grossman Endowment and was established in memory of Bruce Grossman, an alumnus of LAVC who studied Commercial Music. This scholarship will benefit an LAVC student who is majoring in Music. Preference will be given to those studying Commercial Music. Must have passed 6 units and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Business Administration Scholarship

Established by members of the LAVC Business Department who are studying Business Administration at Valley College. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, have passed 25 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Carmen Salazar Scholarship in Spanish

Retired LAVC Foreign Language Department Chair Carmen Salazar established this scholarship to benefit a student studying Spanish. Must be presently enrolled in 9 units, have taken Spanish course, have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

Carol Bishop Scholarship for Arts

The family and friends established this scholarship in honor and memory of artists and Professor of Art, Carol Bishop.  This scholarship will benefit students enrolled at LAVC who are majoring in Art and/or Art History.  Must have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Carol Caldwell Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of former LAVC faculty Carol Caldwell. Must be presently enrolled in 9 units, considered a Non-Traditional Student, have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50 and total passed 24 units. Essay is required.

Chemistry & Physics Department Scholarship

This scholarship is given by the Chemistry & Physics Department to honor outstanding students who are studying in this area. Must be presently enrolled in 9 units, transferring to a 4 year institution, considered Non-Traditional Student, have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

Church of the Chimes Women’s Association

The Congregational Church of Chimes Women’s Association established this scholarship to encourage students, especially women, to pursue STEM careers. This scholarship will benefit students in their second year at Valley College (or completed at least 24-semester units) and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.20.

Cilo Hidalgo, Jr. Valley Pride Scholarship

Despite being a wheelchair user, Cilo Hidalgo, Jr. was cheerful, friendly, and especially enthusiastic about Valley College Athletics! This scholarship will be awarded to a Valley College student who demonstrates a contagious spirit and pride for Valley College. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, have passed 25-56 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Dale Michael Spina Memorial in Journalism

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of alumnus Dale Spina, who was known for his lasting positive influence on others. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, transferring to a 4 year institution, be a member of the Valley Star, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Dena Lee Lovett Scholarship

Evan Lovett’s family established this scholarship in memory of his mother, Dena Lee Lovett. Ms. Lovett was a proud registered nurse for 40 years and attributed her passion for the field due in part to her experience at Valley College. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is studying nursing. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, enrolled in the Nursing Program, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Diane & Robert Pritchard Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Diane & Robert Pritchard to benefit a student who has taken courses in History, Humanities, Law, or Political Science. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

Dr. Jamie Mintz Memorial Scholarship in Psychology

Dr. Jamie Susan Mintz’s family and friends established this scholarship in her memory. Dr. Mintz was a psychotherapist whose therapeutic vision can be summarized in her own words: “In every moment, we have the opportunity to make choices. Psychotherapy is often a gift we give ourselves”. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, have passed 57 units, transferring to a 4 year institution and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.30. Essay is required.

Dr. Kevin Rivera Scholarship for Umoja Black Scholars

Dr. Kevin Rivera awards this scholarship to benefit an African American or Black student who is part of the Umoja Black Scholars at LAVC. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Earleen DeVivo Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Earleen DeVivo established this scholarship in her memory. Professor DeVivo was a member of the LAVC faculty and taught Psychology. This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding academic student majoring in Psychology. Must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

East San Fernando Valley Medical Auxiliary

The East San Fernando Valley Medical Auxiliary (now dissolved) established an endowment and this scholarship to benefit students studying nursing at Valley College. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units in the Nursing Program, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Elaine & Elgin Baylor Scholarship

The Elaine and Elgin Baylor Scholarship was established to support the study and understanding of the African American experience. Special consideration will be given to students who have taken a course in African American studies at LAVC. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, enrolled in Umoja Program, have taken African American Studies Courses, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.00. Essays are required.

Emergency Services Scholarship

Sharon Johnston established this scholarship to benefit students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, fire fighting, or emergency medical technicians. Women are encouraged to apply. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units in the EMT/Paramedic or Fire Fighter program, have passed 15 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50.

Eric F. Reiner Memorial Scholarship

The Reiner Memorial Scholarship is offered through Helen Worthen’s generosity, mother of Eric Reiner, who was a Los Angeles paramedic killed in the line of duty. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Faculty Association TAP Scholarship

The LAVC Academic Senate supports this scholarship to benefit TAP students (LAVC Transfer Alliance Program). Must be TAP Certified and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

Fern Waddell Scholarship

LAVC Faculty Joanne Waddell along with her family and friends support this award in memory of Joanne’s mother, Fern. This scholarship is to benefit a LAVC student studying Kinesiology. Must be presently enrolled in Kin100/Anat1/Phys1 with minimum 3 units, have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Flenner Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to simply help individuals reach their dreams.  The recipient must have a goal of either an Associate Degree or Certificated Program.  Students who attended Poly Tech High School in Sun Valley are preferred. Must be presently employed, enrolled in 6 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Founders’ Circle Scholarship

The founding members of the LAVC Foundation established an endowment and this scholarship. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

General Nursing Scholarship

Various donors contribute annually to support Nursing students. Must be presently enrolled in Nursing Program, have passed 6 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

George Hale Memorial Scholarship

George Hale is a past member of the LAVC faculty in the Biology Department who was well-regarded by his peers. This scholarship is made possible through the Hale Endowment fund and the friends and family of Mr. Hale. It will benefit a student who is majoring in Biology. Must have take Biology 6 or 7, be presently enrolled in 9 units, have passed 25 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.00. Essay is required.

Ginsburg Family Scholarship

The family and friends of Art Ginsburg, an alumnus, established this scholarship in his memory. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Glen Paget Math Teacher Scholarship

LAVC Math Instructor Glen Paget established this scholarship to benefit an LAVC student majoring in Mathematics with a serious intention to become a Mathematics teacher. Must have taken Math 265, be presently enrolled in 6 units in Math/Engineering, have passed 25 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Glenn R. Milner Shared Scholarship in Economics & Business

The Glenn R. Milner Perpetual Scholarship in Economics and Business was established in recognition of Mr. Milner’s longtime contribution to the LAVC scholarship program championed by his Economics Department colleague, Dr. Aura-Lee Ageton Pittenger. The Milner Scholarship focuses on students of Economics and Business. Must have passed 45 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.8. Essay is required.

Graduate/Post Graduate Award

These awards will benefit returning students who have already received a Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree. This award was established to respond to difficult economic times where individuals are looking to make a career change by pursuing different academic avenues. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, have a previous degree, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Greater Van Nuys Rotary Scholarship

The Greater Van Nuys Rotary is offering this to students to Valley College Students.  Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Hafif TAP Scholarship

Herbert Hafif Endowment provides this scholarship to benefit TAP students. Must be TAP Certified, a member of ASO, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50.

Hawkinson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through the William A. Hawkinson Endowment. It will benefit a deserving mathematics student. Must be presently enrolled in or have taken Math 261/254; Math 262/266, Math 263/167, Math 270 or Math 265 and a Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

I Wish Scholarship

To raise awareness and promote inclusiveness amongst the AB 540 community, the I Wish scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to LAVC Dreamers. Must be considered Dreamers, DAVA or undocumented, presently enrolled in 6 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50.

HFPA Cinema/Media Arts & Television Broadcasting Fellowship

The Los Angeles Valley College Foundation is proud to offer the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Cinema/Media Arts and Television Broadcasting Fellowship at Los Angeles Valley College. Selected fellows receive scholarship to be used at their discretion to support enrollment at LAVC and success in the Cinema/Media Arts and Television Broadcasting programs. Eligibility: Currently enrolled in at least six (6) units in the LAVC Cinema/Media Arts or Television Broadcasting; completed at least six (6) units of program prerequisites; minimum of GPA of 2.5.

Jackie Harless-Chang Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is presented to a Computer Applications Office Technology student in honor of Professor Jackie Harless-Chang for her dedication to the Computer Applications Office Technology Discipline, Los Angeles Valley College, and the thousands of students she instructed. During her tenure from 1985-2010, she encouraged students to strive for educational excellence in meeting their goals. Her dedication to education is unsurpassed. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

James Sargent Scholarship

Established to support a LAVC student. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Jose Luis Vargas Memorial Foster Youth Scholarship

The Jose Luis Vargas Memorial Foster Youth Scholarship was established to support current and former foster youth attending LAVC. Must be presently enrolled EOPS, presently taking 6 units, have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.00. Essay is required.

Judy Shifrin Memorial Scholarship

Funded by Louise Kroot-Haukka, this scholarship benefits a student studying various areas in the arts. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Karen Timberlake Scholarship

Emeritus Chemistry Professor Karen Timberlake established this scholarship to benefit those students in pre-nursing and have completed Chemistry 51. Must have passed 9 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

Kenneth Devol Memorial in Journalism

This scholarship is funded through the Jennifer and Larry Levine Endowment to honor former LAVC Journalism instructor Kenneth Devol. Must be a writer for The Valley Star and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50.

Kirsten C. Feldman Memorial

Kirsten Feldman was an alumna of Valley College, and her family established this scholarship in her memory. Kirsten received her Associate’s Degree in Anthropology. This scholarship will be awarded to students studying social science with a preference to those majoring in anthropology. All social science majors are encouraged to apply. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

LAVC Alumni Association Scholarship

Established by LAVC Alumni & Friends Association to benefit an LAVC student. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

LAVC Foundation Scholarship 1

An annual scholarship provided by the LAVC Foundation. Must have passed 9 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

LAVC Foundation Scholarship 2

An annual scholarship funded by the LAVC Foundation. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

LAVC Foundation TAP Scholarship

An annual scholarship provided by the LAVC Foundation to benefit Transfer Alliance/Honors Program (TAP) students. Must be TAP Certified, a member of ASO, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Leon Marzillier Math Scholarship

Leon Marzillier worked in the LACCD for 36 years. He was a math professor at Valley College; he served as department chair, the LAVC Academic Senate President, the District Academic Senate President, and the Union president during his tenure. He is an immigrant and part of the first generation of his family to attend college. He worked to promote diversity and student success. Must be enrolled in or have taken Math 261/251, Math 262/266 or Math 227.

Lois Bergquist Memorial Scholarship in Health Science

Dr. Lois Bergquist was a professor of microbiology at LAVC. She was very much respected by her colleagues and students at Valley College. Lois cared especially about the students, and this scholarship will be awarded to a nursing or respiratory therapy student or to a transfer ready student with the intent to study microbiology or medicine. Must have passed 6 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Margaret Wolk Scholarship for Child Development

Margaret Wolk worked for many years as a teacher and director in pre-schools. Child Development has always been important to her. Her four children honor her by establishing this scholarship to benefit a Child Development major. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Marian E. Craig Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Foundation Board member Marian Craig, this scholarship will benefit an LAVC student. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Marie & Dominick Savarine Scholarship

Established by Dr. Barbara Firestone to honor her parents. Must have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Math Department Scholarship

Awarded to deserving mathematics students, this scholarship is made possible through the Math Department Scholarship Fund. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units, transferring to a 4 year institution, have passed 25 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Max L. Heyman Perpetual Scholarship

Dr. Max L. Heyman, Jr. taught History at Los Angeles Valley College (1956-1988) and was very prominent through all those years in academic and student activities. This scholarship is awarded to a transfer-ready History major who has distinguished himself or herself in History at Valley College. Must have program GPA of 3.0, have passed 30 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Michael Kramer Scholarship

This scholarship was established by a generous donation from the family of Michael Kramer. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Michael Thomas Memorial Scholarship

Funded by the Michael Thomas Endowment to benefit a student who has completed Biology 6 or Biology 7. Must be presently enrolled in 5 units, have passed 15 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Mike’s Roofing & Building Services Scholarship

Mike Quiroga established this scholarship to benefit a Valley College Student. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Monte Toole Memorial Scholarship in Engineering or Machine Shop

Alumnus Monte Toole and his family established this scholarship through the Toole Endowment. It will be awarded to students who have taken or are currently taking courses in engineering or machine shop at L.A. Valley College. It is the hope this scholarship will ultimately assist students pursuing a career in engineering or a technical vocational career. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units in Math/Engineering and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Moonshots (MGM) Scholarship

In honor of LAVC alum Melissa Gordon, whose time at LAVC not only emboldened and inspired her to try for Stanford University, but also equipped her to thrive once she got there. Must be transferring to at 4 year institution, presently enrolled in 9 units, have passed 25-56 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Morton Wolk Engineering Scholarship

Morton Wolk worked as an aircraft engineer and project manager for 38 years with McDonnel Douglas Corporation, mostly in Long Beach. This scholarship was established by his family and friends and will benefit a student focusing on Engineering, Math, or Technology. Must be transferring to a 4 year institution to study Math/Engineering, presently enrolled in 6 units in Math/Engineering, have passed 24 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.00. Essay is required.

Moxie Scholarship

Moxie is 1) energy, pep; 2) courage, determination; 3) know-how, expertise. It’s also a trademark for a soft drink. This scholarship is given to a student with moxie of the second definition! The student must be a non-traditional or returning student (someone who did not come to college directly from high school or who has interrupted his or her college education) who has overcome challenges to pursue their education. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, have passed 48 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

National Notary Foundation Scholarship in Journalism

The National Notary Foundation is devoted to educational and charitable programs by promoting academic and personal achievement. Its support comes from the National Notary Association, which has a membership of 4.5 million. This scholarship was established to benefit a student studying Journalism. Must be a Citizen/Legal Resident transferring to a 4 year institution, a Member of The Valley Star, have passed more than 3 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Oberstein Family Scholarship

Alumni Bob and Jo-Carole Oberstein and their children all attended Los Angeles Valley College. This scholarship will be awarded to a United States Military Veteran student and who can best demonstrate how this scholarship can benefit him/her. Must be a Veteran who is transferring to a 4 year institution, presently enrolled in 9 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Oliver Watters Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors former LAVC professor Oliver Watters. It will benefit a student who has taken History, Humanities, Law, and Political Science. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.30. Essay is required.

Phyllis Nalepa Scholarship

Established by the family of Phyllis Nalepa, this scholarship will benefit a student who has been struggling with his/her academics and circumstances in life. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.0. Essay is required.

Powder/Lash Scholarship in Business

James and Nancy Powder established this scholarship to honor their parents. The applicant must express an intent to earn a Certificate of Achievement or an Associates Degree in any of the Business Department’s disciplines. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units, have passed 8 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Pritzker Foster Care Counts

The Pritzker Foster Care Counts scholarship was established to benefit current and former foster youth attending Los Angeles Valley College. Must be enrolled in EOPS, presently enrolled in 6 units, have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.0. Essay is required.

Raul Castillo Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Raul Castillo established this endowment and scholarship to recognize the LAVC Foundation Executive Director who has served the college and its students for over 20 years. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Robert Kane Memorial Scholarship

Robert Kane devoted more than a decade of his short life to teaching in the English Departments at Los Angeles Valley College and Cal State University, Northridge.  He loved the English language and helping students communicate effectively through writing.  He was also a gifted actor, playwright, musician and songwriter.  In honor of his memory, we offer this scholarship to students who demonstrate a commitment to English, theater, music, animal welfare, or teaching.  May this scholarship support the students to which Robert was so devoted. Must be presently enrolled in 3 units and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Robin Adler Scholarship for Theater Arts

This scholarship was established in honor of David Adler’s mother, Robin Adler, who supported him unconditionally and was always his biggest fan in sports, theater arts, and life. Must be a Theater Major or presently enrolled in Theater Related Classes, have passed 6 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Rose C. Engel Scholarship

Offered through the Rose Engel Endowment, this scholarship benefits those students studying Early Childhood Education. Must be a non-traditional student presently enrolled in 6 units, employed, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Second, Third, Fourth Chance Scholarship

This scholarship will benefit a student who had been previously incarcerated or imprisoned and who has displayed improving his/her life’s circumstances through education. Must have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Sharon J. Udkoff Scholarship in Business

After several years, Sharon Udkoff returned to LAVC to pursue her degree in Accounting. As an alumna, she established this scholarship to benefit returning students studying Business. Must be a non-traditional student presently enrolled in 9 units, have passed 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Sheila Dave, and Sherry Gold Foundation

The Gold Foundation established this scholarship to benefit LAVC students. Must be presently enrolled 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Sheldon H. Kressler Memorial in Teaching, Theater or Spanish for LGBTQ+

Sheldon H. Kressler “Shelly” was a UCLA graduate and a Spanish/ESL teacher at Madison Junior High School in Van Nuys for 30 years. He was devoted to his students and believed that learning could be an exciting and fun experience. He also loved acting and volunteered at the theater. During Shelly’s time teaching, the Briggs Initiative (Prop 6) sought to ban “homosexuals” from teaching or working in schools in California in the late 1970’s. The measure failed, but nonetheless, Shelly spent his time “in the closet” and only “came out” to very few people later in his life.  
This Memorial Scholarship was created by his family in honor of Sheldon Kressler and will benefit any student who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, or an ally.  
Optional preferences: any student in the LAVC LGBTQ+ club, any student who plans to be a teacher, or a student who is majoring in Spanish or Theater, any student who is ready to transfer, any student applying to UCLA. Must be presently enrolled in 9 units, have passed 18 units, transferring to a 4 year institution, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.2. Essay is required.

Stewart Marsh Memorial in Business

Created in the memory of Dr. Stewart Marsh, a former administrator at Valley College, these awards are given to students studying Business. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units, transferring to a 4 year institution, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

Stewart Marsh Memorial in Economics

Created in the memory of Dr. Stewart Marsh, a former administrator at Valley College, these awards are given to students majoring in economics. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units, transferring to a 4 year institution, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.0. Essay is required.

The Freshman Scholarship

Offered by the LAVC Foundation, these scholarships will benefit first-year students at Valley College. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units, and have a high school GPA of 3.0.

The Henry Shockley Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Henry Shockley to benefit a student who has taken courses in History, Humanities, Law, or Political Science. Must be presently enrolled in 6 unitsand have a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.

The LAVC Faculty Retiree Association

The LAVC Faculty Retiree Association includes retired faculty who are dedicated to fostering a continued connection to the college and one another. We are committed to supporting students and faculty through campus programs and services. This scholarship in the amount of $250 will support one student in any discipline who intends to transfer to a four-year institution and is in need of financial support. Must have passed 6 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.0-2.50. Essay is required.

The Shim Family Scholarship in Accounting

The Shim Family Scholarship in Accounting was established to benefit aspiring accountants. The candidate must be a Business Administration major, maintain a 3.5 GPA, have completed 25-56 units, currently enrolled in 9 or more units with the intention to transfer to a four-year university. Essay is required.

Tyree Wieder Scholarship

The family, friends, and colleagues of former Valley College President Dr. Tyree Wieder established this scholarship in her honor. This scholarship is designed to benefit students who have shown an interest in African American culture by taking courses in the subject or holding membership in the Umoja Program. Must be presently enrolled in 9 units. Essay is required.

Van Nuys Women’s Club

The Van Nuys Women’s Club (now dissolved) established an endowment and this scholarship to benefit students in the Nursing Program. Must be presently enrolled in 6 units and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

Vincent & John Scholarship

The Jacobsmeyer family honors the memory of grandfathers Vincent Jacobsmeyer and John Prather by establishing this scholarship to benefit a deserving Valley College student. Must be presently enrolled in 12 units, and have a Cumulative GPA of 2.50. Essay is required.

VTM TAP Scholarship

VTM established this scholarship to benefit a Transfer Alliance/Honors Program (TAP) student. Must be Certified TAP Student, with a Cumulative GPA of 3.50. Essay is required.
